Ellen Chaddha, Advisor to the Board of the Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought created two PowerPoint slide presentations on “400 Years of African American History.”

These slide projects were created for educational purposes with the hope of enlightening the reader, and fostering respect and appreciation for the abuse and struggle of the men, women, and children who were forcibly brought here from Africa. The slides also depict the discrimination descendants have endured.  Anyone may present the slide projects for educational purposes.

Here is some background about how this project was created. 400 years is a long period to cover.  Ellen Chaddha focused on some of the people and events which occurred during that time.  She did not include anyone living, because that would at least double the length.

After creating a slide show presentation of 135 slides, Ellen met with 7 African American local neighbors. They were very helpful.  They suggested that she reduce the number of slides in the presentation, and, also suggested which slides to keep.  Some of the more famous people – such as Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and Ella Fitzgerald were left out.

The slides are brief with only a sentence or two.  However, each person’s life story is so interesting.

Ellen admires and respects individuals who accomplished so much during their lives while undergoing hardships during the times of slavery, “Jim Crow” and the Ku Klux Klan.

We hope you will learn something new and enjoy the presentation.
